Linen book of Zagreb
Linen book of Zagreb
The Zagreb Linen book – Liber linteus Zagrabiensis – arrived in the National Museum in Zagreb together with the mummy and the accompanying inventory. The length of the opened up book is 340 cm, and the width of the sliced bands varies up to 35 cm. The cloth with the text is preserved in five subsequently sliced bands that swaddled the Zagreb mummy.
The linen bands of the Zagreb Linen book make, together with around 1130 words, the longest preserved handwritten manuscript of the Etruscan language ever discovered. At the same time, this is the only remaining Etruscan text with literary features and the only preserved copy of the linen book from the ancient times.
