The Egypt of the pharaohs as a united state existed from the year 3100 to the year 30 B.C, when following Cleopatra VII it became part of the Roman Empire. In science the long history of this country is divided into the following periods.
Out of the three millenniums of Egyptian history, the Zagreb Collection presents around 2000 years of the Pharaonic Egypt and is mainly dependent on the later periods. The oldest monuments are those from the beginning of the second millennium B.C. The most represented items are those from the Third Intermediate Period (1069 – 747 B.C.), the Late Period (747 – 332 B.C.) and the time of the Ptolemaic dynasty (332 – 30 B.C.) while the less represented items are objects from the time of the New Kingdom (1552 – 1069 B.C.) and the Middle Kingdom (2055 – 1650 B.C.).
