Two milestones are displayed along with the cart.

Milestones are rounded stone pillars, up to 3 m high, placed along the roads, marking distances to nearest cities or province boundaries in Roman miles (1 mile = 1480 km). During the Republic the names of censors and consuls were noted, and in the Empire the emperor’s name.
