Helmet
Helmet
The helmet with a conical top from the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb is an extremely rare type of Roman equestrian helmets. Only a few of those helmets have been found so far, exclusively in the area of the Danube limes, that is, one in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria each.
The concentration of finds in a relatively narrow area points to a regional character of production or use. Due to the preserved inscription on the specimen discovered in Hungary, which corroborates beyond doubt that the helmet successively belonged to two horsemen, it is considered that such helmets were used by equestrian units.
