Sword
Sword
This sword, based on the shape, appears to represent an earlier model, that is a transitional type from the typical republican model, the “gladius hispaniensis“ type, toward the early Imperial “Mainz“ type.
Although broken in two, it is almost completely preserved. Even though by its length it does not diverge from the gladii of the “Mainz“ type, its shape certainly draws it nearer the Republican model, because it has an elongated, relatively narrow blade, with a long point. A channel runs along the middle of either side of the blade, and the point is additionally reinforced and has a rectangular section.
