Psephisma from Lumbarda
Psephisma from Lumbarda
This is a long inscription of official and commemorative characteristics, where the circumstances about the purchase of land from the autochthonous settlers by Greek colonists are described. The Greeks bought up the land from the natives, i.e. the native rulers, Pil and his son Daz, and organized their settlement on the area of the present-day Lumbarda. The inscription describes in detail the manner of division of arable land among the first settlers as well as conditions for the assignment of plots for the building of houses within the walls.
The conditions that are also determined are those that would be applied for settlers who would subsequently move into this town as well as penalties for those who would not respect the set regulations about the distribution of the land and proprietary relations. At the end of the text there is a list of the first colonists. As the inscription is not complete it is assumed that the psephisma originally contained a list of about 300 names; so far 180 names have been preserved.
