Gnathia
Gnathia
The production of painted vases in Athens stopped at the end of the 4th century B.C., while workshops in Southern Italy continued with the production of pottery in the spirit of Hellenism; this is, namely, the time when Gnathia vases and the so called relief pottery started being produced.
Gnathia vases received their name from the finding site Egnathia (Ancient Gnathia) in Southern Italy (Apulia), and its significant production centres were in Taras and Canosa. These vases were manufactured in the period between the years 360 to 270 B.C.
