Collection of Greek vases

In the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb a very valuable collection of Greek vases is preserved: they consist of two private collections bought off in the 19th and 20th century. The collection is unique in our country, both by the number of items and the variety of shapes and styles.

It contains approximately 1,500 vessels of various styles from the period from the 8th to the 3rd century B.C. With the exception of several very interesting specimen of Geometric, Orientalizing and Black-figure style, the greatest part of the collection consists of Red-figure style vases from the Southern Italian workshops.
