GREEK AND ROMAN COLLECTION
The classical antique collection contains approximately 40,000 monuments of Greek and Roman provenance. It is in greatest part represented by relevant monument material from various sites located all over Croatia but also from some neighbouring countries. Among the Greek monuments found in Croatia, there is a range of inscriptions of public character that are of exceptional importance as unique historical sources about the Greek colonization of a part of the Croatian coast.
The collection of Greek painted vases, mostly of Italic and Attic origin is the most complete and richest collection of this type in this region. The majority of monuments from the Roman period come from the antique world of the former Roman provinces, Pannonia and Dalmatia.
