Bronze statuette of Amon
Bronze statuette of Amon
The statue of Amon, the supreme deity from the period of the New Kingdom. Most of the large temples in Luxor are dedicated to Amon. The statue shows fine workmanship but is rather damaged. There are missing parts: the right forearm, left lower leg and the upper part of the crown.
He was probably holding a staff in his right hand and in the left hand the symbol of life, ankh. His eyes were taken out while the Pharaoh's beard remained preserved. The statue is empty on the inside, which means that the pouring was accomplished by the "lost wax" casting method. Late Period (8th to 4th centuries B.C.).
