Improvised tomb
Improvised tomb
Round the sarcophagus with the mummy of the woman Kareset there is the representation of the ambience and the appropriate grave goods that have to conjure up the image of the Egyptian tomb: four canopic jars and ushapti – magic figurines. In the showcase outside the tomb there are also cloth coverings for the mummy (the showcase in front), fragments of the Book of the Dead and a scarabaeus heart.
There are also mummified animals: the bird ibis, small crocodile and lizard as well as a human hand and foot. The mummified animals are linked to the cults of those deities to whom some animal had been dedicated - like the cat with the goddess Bastet or the crocodile with the god Sobek. Domestic pets were also mummified.
