The Kaipamau mummy
Sarcophagus and cartonage with the mummy Kaipamau
The sarcophagus and cartonage with the mummy of Amon's priestess, though it belongs to the tomb equipment, also represents Egyptian art from the time when it experienced the restoration of old values. The sarcophagus originates from the 22nd dynasty (10th to 8th century B.C.), and it was discovered in El-Asasif on the western bank of Luxor in the grave of Kheruef (TT 192).
The text written on the lid of the sarcophagus tells us that the deceased woman was Amon's singer. This, namely, was one of the functions that priestesses performed by singing in the temples, accompanying rituals and processions in the days of religious festivals.
