Spiral spectacle-shaped decorations
Spiral spectacle-shaped decorations
The most frequent fibulae were spiral spectacle-shaped fibulae with an eight figure in the middle, the traditional decoration of the earlier prehistoric periods.
At first they were made by bending bronze wire of smaller dimensions, while in the later developmental phases they were becoming permanently bigger; they were manufactured by casting though they have retained their spiral outer shape. As the spiral decoration was simple in terms of manufacturing it also had its symbolism: variants of this shape were produced, e.g. pendants that were worn hanging on the fibulae or as individual decoration.
