Urns and askos from the tombs in Kaptol
Urns and askos from the tombs in Kaptol
At the time of the Early Iron Age, power was concentrated in the hands of the ruling stratum of warrior- princes, and the bull was the personification of their strength and fertility – similarly to old Egypt where the pharaoh, the giver of fertility to the kingdom, was brought into relation with the bull.
This is the reason that in the course of the 7th and 6th centuries B.C., in the tumuli of the warrior notables from the necropolis in Kaptol we can find representations of bulls on the urns, on warrior equipment – e.g. on the whetstone for sharpening weapons and on askoi – jars for drinking with handles in the shape of a bull.
