Hoard from Svilos
Hoard from Svilos
The burying of hoards is a phenomenon characteristic of numerous cultures of the Late Bronze Age all across Europe. These are metal, bronze objects buried at the same time.
The insecure times were most frequently the reason for their burying, some of them, on the other hand, had votive features – gifts for gods or the deceased. The hoard found in Sviloš, in northern Syrmium, originating from the 12th century B.C. also had this purpose. It contained few but chosen objects among which an exceptionally beautiful and luxuriously worked out fibula stands out. The fibula was used to button up as well as decorate the clothes.
