Jewellery made from the shells spondylus
The fossil shell spondylus gaederopus [popularly called thorny oyster] was a favourite material for the manufacturing of jewellery like bangles, bracelets, necklaces or pendants, especially at the time of the Early Stone Age and in the Eneolithic or the Bronze Age. All across Europe there are more than 200 finding places registered so far where decorative objects made from this shell were found.
